LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH Empty
PostSubject: Re: LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH   LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH EmptyFri Aug 01, 2008 5:28 am

I can help a little...
I'm good, iyiyim diyoruz. (We say ''iyiyim'' for ''I'm good''.)
Sağol is ''thank's''.Also as teşekkürler or teşekkür ederim...But ''sağol''s true meaning is something like ''be healthy''...We wish someone good health for something he did for us,but it's literaly translated as ''thank's''
''Nasılsın?'' means ''How are you?'',but ''Nasılsınız?'' is plural, for more than one person, and we use it when we're talking to an older person.
When you answer ''iyiyim'',you always need to ask another person the same. So: Ya sen nasılsın? It means: And how are you?
When you're not good,you can say : İyi değilim=I'm not good,or,kötüyüm=I'm bad.
Or,şöyle-böyle=middle,not good-not bad.
Ne haber? or shorter Naber? means : What's up? What's new?
We usually answer: Hiçbir şey. It means ''nothing''...

If you want,I can practice with you here... Wink

LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH Empty
PostSubject: Re: LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH   LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH EmptyFri Aug 01, 2008 6:07 pm

It can be told on many ways, but most used with the same meaning are:

Uzun zaman bekliyordum! I was waiting for a long time/for so long!
Çok bekliyordum! I was waiting a lot!

It's different when we say ''bekledim'' and ''bekliyordum''.Cuz ''bekliyordum'' means that you waited for a long, constant period who was repeating till the end of your waiting.
And ''bekledim'' is for a short-timed period, usually happened once,as: I waited for you this morning (Seni bekledim bu sabah.) ,but that's not happening every morning...
And ''I was waiting for you every morning'' would be: Seni her sabah bekliyordum...

I hope I was not too complicated with this...I wrote this grammar stuff, cuz peole who are learning Turkish here can be confused and ask me why I used different tense, which is a second degree of studying, than that basic... study dumbo

word order , for example
pronouns , grammar specially prefixes and suffixes Question

LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH Empty
PostSubject: Re: LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH   LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH EmptySat Aug 02, 2008 2:30 pm

Ok.Good idea! I'll start with some basic rules...

First rule: In Turkish, prefixes do not exist.Cuz Turkish is agglutanive language, which means that it has only suffixes...A lot of them! Very Happy

For word order, basic word order is: subject-object-verb
(Ben seni seviyorum=I-you-love=I love you)
But generally when you figure out this basic, you can write words in any order you want...In the start, just follow the formula: subject-object-verb!

But! If you want to point out one word in a sentence, you're putting it at the end.Examples:

Ben seni seviyorum= I love you
Ben seviyorum seni= I love you
Seni seviyorum ben= I love you

Now ''yumuşak g'' (''soft g'') which is written like this : ğ
We are not reading it exactly, but it's function is to make vocal before it longer.
As word ''yağmur'' (''rain'') for example. You're reading it as: yaamur.
Word cannot begin with ''ğ'',never...

In Turkish gender is neutral, cuz,''he,she,it'' is just ''o'',it's same for all...
You can know the gender only if you describe a person.Example:
O seviyor! It can be or boy or girl or animal...You can't know if she loves or he loves...But if I say: Kız seviyor,it means: Girl loves. So it's she...

Personal pronouns:

Ben-I/Me
Sen-You
O-He,She,It
Biz-We
Siz-You
Onlar-They

Is it good for now?!

LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH Empty
PostSubject: Re: LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH   LET'S TRY TO SPEAK TURKISH EmptyMon Aug 04, 2008 4:14 pm

Something interesting: when you pass by some Turkish guyz and you hear them say:90-60-90 (doksan-altmış-doksan),that means that you are a very much handsome girl!
Cuz perfect body size of a girl for Turks are those...90-breasts;60-waist;90-hips...
You also have a song from İsmail YK with that name, singing about how he met a girl over the internet with those measures... Smile

And also word for a pretty girl is: Fıstık. This is more a kind of street talk, and ''fıstık'' literaly means:pistachio...

And when you say for a girl that she's ''güzel'' ('''pretty''),you can't say that for a guy.For guy you can say that he's ''yakışıklı'' (''handsome'')...If you say that guy is ''güzel'' you offended him like you told him that he's gay...
